Bauchi APC Chair, Babayo Aliyu ‘Diverts N360m Party Fund For Personal Use’

Babayo Aliyu Misau, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, has been accused of diverting party funds to the tune of N360 million.

A close ally to the chairman, Muhammad Bakoji Maiwada in a petition obtained by WikkiTimes, said the matter needs to be treated urgently “to save the party from imminent collapse.”

Maiwada in the petition copied Senator Adamu Abdullahi, the national Chairman of APC, and other party stakeholders, pleading with them to look into the allegations of financial misconducts levelled against the state chairman.

The recent decamping and crises bedeviling the party at the state level, according to Maiwada, were as a result of the chairman’s inexperience and financial misconduct.

Maiwada said he was instrumental to the emergence of Misau as the party chairman and it was “agreed” that the latter would give him 10 per cent of any amount accrued.

Although WikkiTimes understands the relationship between the accused chairman and the petitioner went sour following a failed agreement.

“As a concerned card carrying member of the APC in Bauchi State, I spearheaded the struggle that led to the emergence of Alhaji Babayo Aliyu Misau as the pary chairman of APC in Bauchi State,” Maiwada said in the petition. “And based on that; the suspect sat me, offered me the role of seeing him through the party activities because of his inexperience in running the party activities and offered that my remuneration would be 10% of any amount accrued on the curse of running the party activities.”

The aggrieved petitioner said he “reluctantly accepted” the offer and that saw him to the position of chief of staff of the party in Bauchi State.

The money raking spree

According to Maiwada, the party chairman siphoned the party funds on many occasions. Parts of the funds include a N54,880,000 given to the chairman for his inauguration at Abuja, including the inauguration of state, local government and ward executives of the party.

Maiwada claimed that he was in knowledge of of a N20,000,000 given to the party chairman in preparation for the just concluded national convention. According to him, the money plus an additional N10,000,000 given to him in respect of Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential course were diverted for his own use.

The money, however, could be traced to his (party chairman) account domiciled with First Bank and Union Bank, Maiwada added.

When contacted, Misau told WikkiTimes he was in a meeting. He suggested that we send him a text message. However, the text as of press time, has not been responded to.
