Bauchi Assembly declares late Mante’s seat vacant, notifies INEC


Bauchi State House of Assembly has declared the seat of member representing Dass Constituency, late Hon Musa Mante Baraza vacant following his death.


Speaker of the House, Rt Honourable Abubakar Sulaiman made the pronouncement in a plenary he presided over on Tuesday.

Rt Hon Abubakar Sulaiman said, “Based on the power vested on me by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the seat of Dass Constituency in this Assembly is hereby declared vacant.”


The Speaker ordered the clerk of the House to write the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formally inform the commission that Dass Constituency seat in the Assembly is vacant to enable it start the process for conducting bye-election in the constituency.


WikkiTimes reports that unknown gunmen killed late Hon Musa Mante Baraza in the mid night of 18 August, 2020 and abducted his two wives and a baby who gained their freedom.

Constitutionally, the electoral body is mandated to conduct bye-election within 90 days upon getting notice of a vacant position.
