A member representing Burra constituency in the Bauchi state house of assembly, Honourable Ado Wakili has provided scholarships to 69 students of his constituency that are undergoing studies in various institutions across the country.

The lawmaker announced the award of the scholarship during an interactive town hall meeting held between his constituents and their elected members organized by CEPPS/IRI.

WikkiTimes gathered that the aim of the town hall meeting is to enable the constituents have one-on-one interaction and understanding with their elected leaders in order to reap the dividends of democracy.

The member explained that, since he came on board he has embarked on massive construction, rehabilitation of Boreholes in some communities as well as payment of medical bills for some of the people within his constituency.

Responding, some members of his constituency who thanked the lawmaker for the gesture appealed to him to help them address issues of inadequate portable drinking water, delipidated class rooms, healthcare centres, unqualified teachers, shortage of health workers among others.

“IRI deserves commendation because this is first time in history that we are having face to face interaction with our elected representatives”, the constituents said.

The International Republican Institute (IRI) would meet with the representatives of the communities to assist them in prioritizing the major service delivery challenges in their areas to facilitate identifiable intervention from their legislatures.
