Bauchi Assembly vows to block financial leakages, improve revenue

The Bauchi State House of Assembly BAHA, says it will intensify efforts to block financial leakages and improve internally generated revenue (IGR) for the development of Bauchi state.

Speaker of the assembly Rt. Honourable Abubakar Suleiman who made the revelation during the Assembly’s plenary explained that improving IGR and blocking financial leakages will improve the financial position of the State and make it more economically viable.

Addressing members of the assembly, Abubakar Y. Suleiman argued that most states are bedeviled with paucity of funds, as such deliberate efforts have to be put in place to generate revenues.

Abubakar Suleiman urged the members of the assembly not to forget their oversight functions aimed at ensuring all capital projects and programmes contained in the fiscal year are executed according to specifications and within a definite time framework.

“Our basic objective to ensure the people for which such projects and programmes are meant to serve, are not shortchanged by greedy contractors and service providers.

“We must strive to ensure our people get value for the resources expended in every contract. We shall partner with the Executive Arm to ensure all leakages of our precious though meagre resources are effectively blocked” the Speaker said.

He also commended the members for thorough deliberation and speedy passage of the 2020 budget as well as their immeasurable support and cooperation accorded to his leadership, assuring them of his resolve to carry everybody along in order to make positive strides in the legislative roles they are saddled with.

The Speaker however tasked the lawmakers to deploy the knowledge they acquired from the recent foreign training they attended, which he says will help them churn out legislation for good governance and speedy delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of Bauchi State.
