Bauchi Committed to Promoting Girl-Child Education

The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the educational sector, with a particular focus on promoting girls’ education. 

The Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jamila Dahiru, disclosed this while speaking at the bi-annual media roundtable organized by the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE – AF), a World Bank-assisted project in partnership with the Bauchi State Ministry of Education.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Aliyu Babayo Gamawa, the Commissioner who noted that the education sector received the largest portion of the state budget, attributed the development to Governor Bala Muhammed’s dedication to revitalizing the sector after years of neglect.

Dr. Dahiru emphasized the critical importance of girls’ education, noting that the government, in collaboration with AGILE-AF is committed to achieving significant improvements in the sector.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State AGILE Project Coordinator, Alhaji Ali Sule Gar, explained that the initiative has adopted a comprehensive approach to advancing girls’ education. 

According to him, the project has identified several public institutions to facilitate the effective rollout of the project, ensuring its reach is extended to grassroots communities.

In his presentation, a resource person at the event, Alhajii Umar Muhammad Shira, urged media professionals, as essential stakeholders, to avoid sensationalism, blackmail, bias, and selective reporting in their reports.
