Bauchi Community Protests Police’ Killing of Two Local Security Personnel

Residents of Yelwa, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, took to the street Friday protesting the alleged stabbing of three members of ‘Peace Committee,’ of the area by PC Lukman Madaki while on patrol leading to the death of one Abdulmalik Mohammed, 22, and Sadiq, 23.

PC Lukman, 29, was attached to the Bauchi Police Command Sports Office from Toro Division of the command.

The angry youths blocked Tafawabalewa-Bauchi road for hours causing heavy traffic flow on the road as commuters could not drive through the mammoth crowd.

The angry youths were seen pelting stones at the police and inside the Yelwa Police Station. The police were also shooting into the air to disperse them.

A Resident of the area who attended the burial rites of the deceased told our reporter on condition of anonymity that the PC Lukman’s victims were attached to the police patrol team of Yelwa Police Division.

SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident in a statement made available to reporters in Bauchi.

He said that Lukman used Jack Knife to stab his victims who were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawabalewa University Teaching Hospital. Doctors at the hospital certified Abdulmalik and Sadiq death.

Nazif Mohammed survived the knife as he is responding to treatment at the hospital.

“The suspect has since been arrested and detained while investigation has commenced in earnest,” the statement read in part.
