Bauchi Demotes Two Civil Servants for Alleged Malpractice

The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has demoted two senior officers of the agency for Mass Education for alleged impersonation during promotional examination.

The commission in a statement signed by its Information Officer, Sale Umar, said a senior executive officer on level 9 was caught writing promotional exams for a female officer in the same agency, an act that contravenes Public Service Rule.

According to Umar, one Shamsudden Baban Takko, a level 9 Senior Executive Officer (General) with the agency for Mass Education has been demoted to level 8 after he was found guilty of writing exams on behalf of Sadiya Abdullahi, a Higher Assistant Education Officer of same office, during the last Civil Service Promotion Examination exercise held on 30th March 2024.

“In furtherance of its avowed commitment to sustaining effectiveness in the Service, the State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has during its 27th and 28th Plenary session of Tuesday and Thursday last week formalized the promotion of some Officers and had also taken measures against exams malpractice”.

“One Shamsuddeen Baban Takko, Senior Executive Officer ( General) a Staff of the Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education (BASAME) was found guilty during the last Civil Service Promotion Examination exercise held on 30th March, 2024, to have written the exams on behalf of one Sadiya Abdullahi, Higher Assistant Education Officer of same Office which was considered as gross misconduct and their action has contravened Public Service Rules (PSR) 0312 (xii) a, and b.

Shamsudded was on GL-09 and has been downgraded to GL 08, while Sadiya Abdullahi who was the candidate for the exam was also downgraded from GL-08 to GL-07”, said Umar in the statement.

The commission however, promoted 16 officers for an acting and substantive appointments to various cadres, 3 others were deployed to the office of the Accountant General based on the approval of the state governor while some cases from the Health Management Board were deferred for lacking in merit.

The statement quoted the commission’s chairman Abubakar Usman, emphasising their commitment to maintain integrity and fairness in the promotion exams process and ensuring that only deserving officers are promoted based on their merit and performance.
