The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has dismissed a senior education officer, Emos Joshua, for sexual harassment at Government College, Azare.
The Commission said Mr Joshua, a Principal Assistant Education Officer, was found guilty of serious misconduct, in violation of Rules 0327 (xxviii and xxix) of the state’s Public Service Rules.
In a statement on Thursday, Saleh Umar, the spokesperson of the commission, said the decision followed its 32nd plenary session, held in Bauchi. He added that all disciplinary procedures outlined in Rule 0317 of the service regulations were duly followed before the imposition of the sanction.
During the same session, the commission promoted 83 officers across various agencies. These included the elevation of two deputy directors, now confirmed as substantive directors of Physical Planning and Development Control on grade level 16. A Chief Physical Planning Officer was also promoted to acting deputy director on grade level 15.
Similarly, 80 nursing officers and nursing superintendents were elevated to higher grades, ranging from levels 10 to 14, following recommendations from the Bauchi State Special School Management Board, the Public Procurement and Physical Development Board, and the Health Management Board.
The chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Muhammad, said the dismissal of Mr Joshua was not punitive but aimed at safeguarding discipline and integrity within the state’s civil service.
“The action taken against Mr Joshua is a reminder to all civil servants that professional conduct and strict adherence to the rules are essential for an effective and accountable public service,” he said, stressing that due process was observed throughout the proceedings.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and transparency in handling staff matters, adding that disciplinary enforcement and merit-based promotions are part of ongoing reforms to strengthen the state’s public service.
