Bauchi State Government has distributed assorted relief materials to victims of this year’s flood disaster across the state to cushion the effects of the disaster on their lives.
The relief materials were donated to the victims by the embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Nigeria through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
About 16 local government areas in Bauchi have recorded one or more incidents of flood disasters this year leading to the death of 24 people while 163 others were severely injured.
Similarly, about 12 major roads were cut off by the flood and 60 culverts were destroyed; 122,330 households were displaced; 52,035 houses were destroyed; 178 electric poles collapsed; 11,183 livestock were lost.
Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Wanka, while distributing the relief materials to the victims on Friday in Bauchi said assorted foods and farm implements were distributed to the victims across the affected local government areas.
Wanka explained that Bauchi government added a bag of rice and maize to each of the victims to further provide scuccor to them.
