Bauchi GEPT Judgement: Police Ban Rallies

Ahead of the judgement of the Bauchi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (GEPT), police have suspended all fireworks and rallies for or against the judgment of the tribunal. 

INEC declared incumbent Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, PDP, winner of the election with 525,280 votes to defeat his closest contestant Ambassador Sadique Baba Abubakar, APC, who polled 432,272 votes. 

Spokesperson of Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil in a statement on Sunday said all forms of celebrations and rallies by political party supporters for or against winners or losers of the Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal judgement are proscribed. 

He warned ecstatic supporters to conduct themselves in line with the provisions of the law, adding that blockage of roads, fireworks, and inciting utterances would not be condoned.

“The Command will not shillyshally to decisively deal with any person(s) or group(s) who violate this order or deliberately cause the breakdown of law and order in whatever manner. 

“Those in violation will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law as security agencies have been deployed strategically and directed to ensure full enforcement.

“Against the milieu of this development, the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad psc, urges members of the public to cooperate with the security agencies as many Police operatives will be seen at strategic areas, routes, and communities to suppress the antics and criminal act of underworld personalities,” the statement read in part.

Wakil warned officers and men of the Command to be civil professional, and humane in the course of discharging their duties, he equally ordered regular patrols, stop and search, raids, and show of force.
