Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has handed down a strong warning to the 20 elected local government chairmen against infiltrating ghost workers into the payroll of their LGAs.
The governor gave the warning during the swearing-in ceremony of the Chairmen at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Bauchi.
“You must help our administration to fish out ghost workers, don’t go and create your own ghost workers, we will not tolerate that going forward”, the governor said.
Governor Mohammed who says that the election of the LG Chairmen was to fulfill part of his campaign promises added that “we have succeeded in bringing democracy to the doorstep of the people by allowing them to elect their own leaders.
“Appointing Caretaker Chairmen is an aberration of our democracy, that is why my administration decided to allow democracy take its natural cause by conducting LG elections.
“You are now the democratically elected Chairmen, don’t allow anyone to micro-manage you.
“My administration will ensure that you have the autonomy you deserve to serve your people”, the governor said during the ceremony.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in Chairmen, Alhaji Yusuf Garba, Chairman Alkaleri local government assured the governor that the elected Chairmen will deepen democracy at the grassroots levels.
“Your Excellency, I want to assure you that we will take example from your leadership style by deepening stake-holding.
“Be rest assured that we will be your foot soldiers at the grassroot level and we will deliver democracy in line with the manifestoes of the PDP”, he said.
WikkiTimes reports that Saturday’s local government election in Bauchi saw the ruling People’s Democratic Party sweeping all the 20 local government chairmen and the 323 councilors in the State.
The elected councils’ chairmen include that of Bauchi, Mahmoud Baba Maaji; Alkaleri -Yusuf Garba; Bogoro – Iliya Habila; Dambam- Waziri Ayuba; Darazo-Mahmood Bello; Dass-Bello Haruna; Gamawa -Yaya Hamma; Ganjuwa-Daiyabu Mohammad Kariya; Giade – Usman Mohd Sale; Itas/Gadau – Abdullahi Mohd Maigari; and Jama’are -Sama’ila Yusuf Jarma.
Others are Katagum -Abdullahi Kuda; Kirfi -Garba Musa; Misau- Abubakar Ahmed Misau; Ningi- Ibrahim Zubairu; Shira -Babangida Ishaq Abdullahi; T/Balewa – Daniel Mazadu Danjuma; Toro – Adamu Umar Danyaro; Warji -Adamu Muhammad Warji and Zaki- Yahuda Abdulkadir.
