Bauchi Governor signs N167.2b 2020 budget into law

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has signed into law, the 2020 appropriation bill as approved by the state assembly into law.

The amount budgeted for the 2020 fiscal year for the state is N167,215,807,500 billion only.

It could be recalled that governor Bala had few weeks ago presented a proposed 2020 appropriation bill of N167,215807,500 billion to the Bauchi state House of Assembly for consideration.

While signing the budget into law on Tuesday at the Government House, Governor Bala said that he will set up a committee that will monitor the implementation of the budget noted that his administration will introduce mechanism to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the state.

“We will go beyond depending on pay as you earn as a means of revenue generation. We are talking with a consultant to help us draw out a plan that captures the informal sectors to improve the IGR of our state.

Governor Bala who expressed delight that the budget which was submitted just two weeks ago has been approved and returned by the state assembly, commended members of the House for the show of sportsmanship despite their political differences.

“We started staggeringly, but today we are together, achieving good results. This budget of hope is not just for show, it is what we will follow to better the lives of the people of our state. By the time we look at the major areas in the budget; education and agriculture, we would have achieved a lot for our people,” he said.

The Speaker of the state assembly, Rt. Abubakar Suleiman who spoke earlier said that the House dd not hesitate to pass the bill because it was comprehensive.

Speaker Suleiman who said that the state assembly only effected minor changes in the budget while the total figure remained, assured that the budget will meet the aspirations and yearnings of the good people of Bauchi State if assented to by the Governor.
