Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has sworn in five newly appointed officials to fill key positions in the state government and local administration.
The brief ceremony held Tuesday at the Government House Executive Chamber in Bauchi, shortly before a meeting of the State Executive Council.
The appointees include Hadiza Abdulkadir Kango as Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council; Jummai Salamatu Abubakar as Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC); and Iliya Isa as Executive Chairperson of Dambam Local Government Council.
Also sworn in were Babaji Idris Shehu as Auditor General for Local Governments, and Abubakar Usman Misau as Permanent Commissioner in BASIEC.
Administering the oaths was the State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar.
Governor Mohammed said the appointments were made to replace officials who exited service through resignation, retirement or death. He noted that merit, competency and the administration’s equity policy guided the selection process.
“We expect diligence, honesty and full commitment to transparency and accountability,” the governor said, warning against abuse of office or prioritising personal interests.
He also urged the new Commissioner, Hadiza Kango — who swapped portfolios with Higher Education Commissioner, Lydia Haruna Tsammani — to align with government priorities and work closely with her ministry’s permanent secretary.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Mr Misau expressed appreciation and assured that they would justify the confidence reposed in them through loyalty and dedicated service.
