Bauchi Govt. Approves N514m For Rural Electrification

Bauchi State Government has vetoed N514,000,000 for inter-town cabling and the purchase of transformers in the state.

The breakdown of the money shows that N319,000,000 would be used to reconnect 37 communities to the National Grid and N195,000,000 would be applied to the purchase of transformers and their accessories for 200 communities.

Maryam Garba Bagel, Commissioner of Power, Science and Technology disclosed this to journalists at the end of the Bauchi State Executive Council meeting.

The Commissioner said that the project will be implemented by her ministry through direct labour, arguing that market prices of these commodities necessitated the decision to domicile the project in the ministry.

She said the strategy for the implementation of the project will help the government cut down expenses.

Bagel said that some of the communities to be reconnected to the National Grid have been without power for a period spanning between two to 10 years.
