Bauchi State Government has banned all forms of corporal punishment in private Islamiyya schools and Higher Islam learning institutions in the state.
Commissioner For Education Bauchi State, Dr Aliyu Tilde stated this in a press statement made available to reporters in Bauchi.
He said that the ministry will closely monitor all Islamiyya schools in the state to ensure that such inhuman behaviour is jettisoned completely.
The Commissioner said it is improper for Islamiyya school owners and managers to be subjecting children to untold punishment in the guise of strengthening their moral behaviour.
Dr Tilde lamented that the rate at which corporal punishment is being meted out the pupils in Islamiyya schools in the state is worrisome, adding that it passed dangers to the general wellbeing of the pupils.
“Henceforth, the Ministry of Education would not hesitate to close down such schools, if found to be engaged in child molestation and the culprits will be punished appropriately. The ministry of education will continue to monitor schools until such dangerous behaviour is eliminated.
“This non-challan is increasingly causing badly harm and resulting in the death of the innocent pupils placed under the care of such schools in Bauchi.
“I am directed to inform you that this Ministry has noted with great concern the increasing cases of corporal punishment among private and higher Islamic and Islamiyya schools on the pretext of disciplinary measures,” the statement read in part.
Dr Tilde warned that any school owner found wanting on corporal punishment will be made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrence to others.
