The Bauchi State Government has insisted on its earlier decision to construct a school at the famous Kobi Football Field in Bauchi metropolis.
WikkiTimes learnt that there was public outcry in Bauchi city after the State Government announced that it will construct one of the proposed mega schools in the state at the football pitch to reduce out of school children.
Recall that UNICEF’s data has consistently for years keep Bauchi among the top tier states with highest number of out of school children in the country.
The Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB) Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri made the position known while speaking to newsmen in Bauchi.
Alhaji Duguri explained that the state government is committed to taking out Bauchi from the list of educationally backward states in the country.
According to him, there are over 1.7 million out of school children roaming the streets in the state, saying that no government would allow such situation to continue like that.
He explained that the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) had indicated interest to complement the effort of the state government through the construction of mega schools in the state in order to accommodate the number of the out of school children.
He added that the Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Suleman Adamu was first consulted for a most suitable land for the project in Bauchi, saying that at the end Kobi Football Field was discovered to be suitable in view of its proximity to the people.
He debunked those accusing him of taking over the football field for personal gain, advising them to fear Allah in their utterances and actions.
Meanwhile, the State government said the proposed school will be named after the state prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
