Bauchi Govt, Muslim League Offer Free Eye Surgery To 500 People

Bauchi State Government in collaboration with Muslim World League, a Suadi-based civil society organisation, has concluded plans to give free cataract surgery to 500 people in the state.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed disclosed this on Tuesday at the official flagging off campaign for the exercise held at the Specialists Teaching Hospital Bauchi.

The governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Kasim said, the move was part of the desire of his administration to offer inclusive healthcare services to the people of the state, the free surgery will cater for the eyes health challenge of the less privileged and vulnerable persons in the society especially those who have cataract problems.  

He commended the Muslim World League for assisting the state in that direction. He assured that his government remains resolute to bring succour to its people especially irrespective of their socio-economic placement in the society.

Dr Murtala Muhammad Umar, Ophthalmologist Consultant with the Muslim World League, described Cataracts as a leading eye health problem responsible for making lots of people all over the world lose their sight.

He added that Bauchi state is one of the three benefitting states for the project in the north after Gombe and Jigawa, assured to work with the state government in order to bring more intervention from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Earlier in his address, the Chief Medical Director Specialists Hospital Bauchi Dr Ya’u Hameed called on the people of the state to come en mass in order to benefit from the gesture.
