Bauchi Govt Renames State University After Late Sa’adu Zungur

Bauchi State Executive Council has on Wednesday approved the renaming of Bauchi State University, Gadau to Sa’adu Zungur University.

The State Commissioner for Education who made the disclosure said the gazetting of the renaming will soon be conducted.

“This is done to immortalize the name of late Malam Saadu Zungur (1915-1958), a Bauchi indigene that was among the leaders that fought for our independence”, Dr Tilde stated.

Dr Tilde who described the late Sa’adu Zungur as a political “mentor of Malam Aminu Kano; a one-time secretary of NCNC, a political activist whose progressive ideas shaped the Northern political culture to date” said the renaming of the university after him was a mark of respect.

“Alhamdulillah, His Excellency and the Executive Council have helped the Ministry see the dream promise it made to the representatives of the family of Malam Sa’adu when they came praying for his befitting immortalization become real. “His Excellency, the Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is particularly happy with the idea. We thank him immensely.

“This is a great day in the history of education in Bauchi State”, Dr Tilde added.

The late Sa’adu Zungur was a social critic, poet, politician and a great historian whose scholarship was championed the early reformation of Northern Nigeria.
