Bauchi Health Agency directs schools to take measures against coronavirus

Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency has directed all public and private schools to take urgent measures against coronavirus.

The Executive Chairman of the health agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said the agency had written letters to all public and private schools in the state to make water and sanitizers available and create hand washing points where pupils and students would constantly be washing their hands as a preventive measure against the virus.

Dr Rilwanu who was speaking when he received in audience, members of the Bauchi Public Health Media Network said monitoring agencies where put in place to ensure that schools in Bauchi comply with the directives of the state government.

“Although we are not praying for the virus in Bauchi, but I can assure you that the state government has taken measures in the event of outbreak”, he said.

Dr Rilwanu called on the people of the state to be vigilant and report cases suspected to be coronavirus, “because if people report early on cases they suspect to be the virus, it will help us quickly take measures”, he added.

He advised the people of the state to pay utmost attention to hygiene and clean environment, which he says will help prevent the spread of diseases.

Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of the Bauchi Public Health Media Network, Mrs Elizabeth Kah said the courtesy visit was to seek partnership with the agency dishing out correct information to the public on health issues.

“The network of journalists is formed with the view to hold government accountable and attract the necessary priority in the health sector.

“We are appealing to the agency to be responsive to our demands especially by giving us correct information and data to enable us report with facts”, she added.

Elizabeth argued that the role of journalist in reporting health issues was very critical called on the agency to be responsive to urgent calls and demands from journalists especially on the issue of data to enable them communicate factual information to the public.
