A Bauchi State High Court has sentenced a Middle age man, Umaru Muhammadu Jauro Ori to death by hanging for killing his father inside a Mosque in Mai’aduwa Village of Misau local government area of the state.
Delivering the judgement in Bauchi, the presiding Judge,
Justice Aliyu Baba Usman stated that having listened to both sides, theprosecution and the defense counsel led by Barrister Chukwuemeka Ikwazu, “thedeath of the victim was as a result of the act of the accused and theprosecution counsels has proved their case beyond reasonable doubt, thereby found the accused guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death undersection 221 of the Bauchi state laws. “I hereby sentenced him to die by hanging.”Justice Aliyu Usman further stated that the Chief StateCounsel, Hussein Ishaq Magaji told the court that the accused went in to aMosque in Mai’aduwa Village and stabbed his father with a cutlass on his headand back as a result, he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the MisauGeneral Hospital where he died the following day.
He added that the accused denied and pleaded not guilty tothe offence during trial, but the Prosecution counsel brought ten witnessesin their separate statements recorded by the Police during investigation whichwere attached to the documents before the court.
The Judge said the younger brother of the deceased, 70 yearsold Umar Mohammed Jatau and younger brother of the accused, 26 years oldIbrahim Muhammadu Jauro Ori told the Court that the suspect had problem withtheir father, a situation which led to the action of the accused.
They added that youths in the area saw accused while he perpetratingthe act pursued and arrested him while attempting to run away.
The suspect said he killed his father because his fatherbecause the father separated him with his wife whom they bore two children.
Umaru who accused his late father of separating him with hiswife and other relatives said he stabbed his father on his head and back hefell down.
“When I run away, the youth pursued me and arrested me theybeat me mercilessly and injured my right fingers.
