Bauchi High Court sentences man to death for killing his father

A Bauchi State High Court has sentenced a​ ​​ Middle age man, Umaru Muhammadu Jauro Ori to death by hanging for ​​ killing his father inside a Mosque in Mai’aduwa​ ​​Village of Misau local government area of the state.

Delivering the judgement in Bauchi, the presiding Judge, Justice Aliyu Baba Usman stated that having listened to both sides, the prosecution and the defense counsel led by Barrister Chukwuemeka Ikwazu, “the death of the victim was as a result of the act of the accused and the prosecution counsels has proved their case beyond reasonable doubt, thereby​ ​​ found the accused guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death under section 221 of the Bauchi state laws. “I hereby sentenced him to die by hanging.”

Justice Aliyu Usman further stated that the Chief State Counsel, Hussein Ishaq Magaji told the court that the accused went in to a Mosque in Mai’aduwa Village and stabbed his father with a cutlass on his head and back as a result, he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Misau General Hospital where he died the following day.

He added that the accused denied and pleaded not guilty to the offence during trial, but the Prosecution counsel brought ​​ ten witnesses in their separate statements recorded by the Police during investigation which were attached to the documents before the court.

The Judge said the younger brother of the deceased, 70 years old Umar Mohammed Jatau and younger brother of the accused, 26 years old Ibrahim Muhammadu Jauro Ori told the Court that the suspect had problem with their father, a situation which led to the action of the accused.

They added that youths in the area saw accused while he perpetrating the act pursued and arrested him while attempting to run away.

The suspect said he killed his father because his father because the father separated him with his wife whom they bore two children.

Umaru who accused his late father of separating him with his wife and other relatives said he stabbed his father on his head and back he fell down.

“When I run away, the youth pursued me and arrested me they beat me mercilessly and injured my right fingers.
