The Bauchi State Government says it is determined to check the proliferation of private schools in the state with the inauguration of a Task Force Committee to clamp down on those operating illegally.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Jamila Dahiru, said this when the committee members visited her in her office on Tuesday.
Dahiru said that the committee was part of government’s initiatives designed to tackle the problems associated with unregistered private schools in the state’s education sector.
She said that the measure would also help to check the menace of non-compliance with the government’s guidelines for the establishment of private schools.
She also said that a townhall was convened with the proprietors of private schools, their association and other stakeholders, where decisions, including to constitute the task force, were arrived at.
She said that the committee’s terms of reference include to identify unregistered schools, inspection visits to the affected schools and issuing instant judgment through a mobile court.
The committee is also expected to, among other things, devise a means of tracking compliance and any other action toward enhancing compliance to private schools’ guidelines.
The Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Education, Mr Nasir Alaa, on behalf of his colleagues, promised to discharge their assignment diligently. (NAN)
