Coalition of 22 political parties deregistered by INEC but later reinstated by Court of Appeal have asked Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission to capture their names and logos on ballot paper for the upcoming local governments elections in the state or face legal action.
Alhaji Tijjani Aminu, Chairman, Youth Democratic Party, YDP, Bauchi State chapter who spoke on behalf of the 22 political parties in a press conference in Bauchi on Sunday, said the affected parties in Bauchi State formally forwarded the Court of Appeal Judgement of 10th August, 2020 to INEC and BASIEC.
Alhaji Ahemd Tijjani Aliyu said the affected parties expressed their interest to participate in the local government elections slated for October 17th.
“BASIEC directed us to furnish INEC and elsewhere with our request, and we complied. Neither INEC nor BASIEC is yet to respond to our request.”
The Chairman said, “therefore, we want BASIEC to include our names and logos in the ballot papers as bonafide parties that will participate in the local government elections.”
He also asked INEC to allow them take part in Dass Constituency bye election.
“Time is fast running out for INEC and BASIEC to include us in the forthcoming local government elections.
“Failure to do so will lead to court action which may lead to nullification of the entire process,” he said.
The coalition of the 22 political parties appreciate the President of the Court of Appeal and judges for the landmark judgement leading to reinstatement and relisting of the 22 political parties out of the 74 INEC deregistered.
The affected parties are ADC, ANNP, ABP, AGAP, ASD,CAP, DPC, GPN, MMN, MPN, NGP, NFD, PCP, PPA, PDC, YDP, RBNP, SNC, SPN, UDP, UP and WDPN.
