Bauchi Miyetti Allah Deplores Tagging Fulanis, ‘Criminal’

Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association, Bauchi State Chapter has condemned in strong terms, the narratives tagging Fulani tribe particularly herders, as criminals.

Sadiq Ahmed Who spoke to WikkiTimes Newspaper insists that the government has rather neglected the fulanis in the provision of dividends of democracy.

“The government is doing nothing for the Fulani man, tell me, go and look at the Nigerian budget and the states’ budget, what is allocated to the Fulani people.

“What we are saying is that justice should be done to every tribe and justice is what you do to an Igbo man in the South, do it to the Yoruba man in the West, do it to the Hausa man, and the Fulani man also.

“Share these resources equally, don’t come and concentrate in the infrastructure in the city, building roads here and there, without considering the farmer or herders in the rural areas.

“Give out loans, provide other infrastructure to farmers as well as herders, who also form some sort of farming.

“Let me give you an example, two years back, the Federal brought an Anchor Borrowers Programme, where the Fulanis are staying with their cows and were told to leave without anything, are they not contributing to the economy “, he probed?

Commenting on the war of words’ between Benue and Bauchi State Governor, the Miyetti Allah leader said, instead of tagging a particular tribe as criminals, perpetrators of crimes should be identified and punished.

He said all tribes have criminals, adding, it was wrong to tag one tribes as criminals.

“I don’t even believe that Fulani people are carrying AK 47, they may be carrying knives and other weapons to protect themselves and their cows, just as every other tribe will want to protect themselves when exposed to danger”.

” What we are telling the government is to Modernise and formalize nomadic education to suit the pastoral life of the Fulani people.

” You cannot come and keep them in the classroom and teach them what will not go in line with their animal rearing life because it will not benefit them,” he said.
