Bauchi NGO launches zonal campaign against electoral violence

A Bauchi based Non-governmental Organization Forward in Action for Education, Poverty and Malnutrition FACE-PAM has launched a campaign against electoral violence for states in the north eastern part of the country.

Briefing newsmen in Bauchi the Executive Director of FACE-PAM Mr. Ado Solomon said the campaign is aimed at achieving violence free elections in the zone and the country at large.

Mr. Ado Solomon explained that the campaign involved engagement with stakeholders such as traditional and religious leaders, youth and women groups, security agents and the media during and after the elections.

He said awareness rallies would be held across the six states in the zone to sensitize electorate against engaging in any act capable of causing chaos throughout the election process.

The FACE-PAM executive Director also mentioned that the organization had also trained election monitors while media campaign are taking place in broadcast media organizations in the six affected states.

Mr. Ado Solomon called on youth in the zone to eschew electorate violence including political thuggery, ballot box snatching and hate speech.

He also advised parents to distance their wards from politicians who may use them to foment trouble during the elections.

According to him the campaign against electoral violence is being undertaken under the Nigeria Election Violence Report North-East Sub-hub with support from the United States Agency for International Development USAID and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development DFID.
