Bauchi NUJ Tasks Members on Peace Reporting

The Bauchi State Council of Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), Friday sensitized members of the State Executive Committee on the role of journalists in maintaining peaceful coexistence in society.

Speaking at the sensitization workshop held at NUJ Press Center, Bauchi, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Umar Sa’idu reiterated the commitment of the council towards regular training of working journalists across the state in a bid to maintain professionalism in media practice.

Sa’idu said the training was to update the knowledge of the participants on their roles in society so as to contribute positively towards promoting peaceful coexistence through adherence to the ethics and values of the journalism profession.

Declaring the workshop open, the State Head of Civil Service, Yahuza Adamu Haruna, represented by the Permanent Secretary Establishment and Servicom Bureau, Sani Umar assured of the government’s determination to support NUJ in the training of members for effective service delivery.

The HoS commended the NUJ for complementing the effort of the state government in the maintenance of peace and unity in the state and called for its sustenance.

In a remark, the outgoing NUJ National Secretary, Comrade Shuaibu Leman who described the sensitization as a step in the right direction, said journalists deserved regular training to enable them to serve the public with well-balanced and accurate information for peaceful coexistence in society.

Leman who said society relied on journalists on daily happenings around the world, maintained that NUJ will continue to discourage the promotion of fake news and hate speeches in order to protect the integrity of the pen profession.
