Bauchi Police Arrest Man for Stealing Classmate’s Car to Reconcile With Estranged Wife

Ahmed Mohammed, a 29-year-old resident of Polo High-Court, Borno State, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly stealing his secondary school classmate’s car and fleeing to Bauchi with plans to sell it and raise funds for his house rent and to reconcile with his estranged wife.

SP Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson for the command disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday said the suspect planned to sell the stolen car for N2 million.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) arrested him in the Bayan Gari area of the Bauchi metropolis on February 24, 2024.

He was found in possession of a white Toyota Highlander with registration number ABC-65PK, which was reported stolen.

The Command Spokesman said investigations revealed that Ahmed Mohammed had been employed as a driver at Damuli Investment Company Ltd., owned by his secondary school classmate in Maiduguri, Borno State.

“On February 24, 2024, the Operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) attached to Bauchi State Police Command acted on credible intelligence at their disposal and arrested Ahmed Mohammed, 29yrs ‘M’, a resident of Polo High-Court, Borno State.

“The suspect was arrested at Bayan Gari Area of Bauchi State alongside the stolen vehicle (Toyota Highlander) white in colour with registration number ABC-65PK.

“A discreet investigation into the matter has revealed that the suspect was employed as a driver by a company owned by his secondary school classmate called Damuli Investment Company Ltd. in Maiduguri, Borno State. 

“It was further uncovered that the accused Ahmed Mohammed fled with the car to Bauchi with the intent to sell it out for the sum of two million Naira (N2,000,000) and use the money to pay his house rent and to welcome his estranged wife back home.”

SP Wakil added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed has instructed that further investigations be conducted in Borno State to uncover additional motives and ascertain all facts surrounding Ahmed Mohammed’s actions.
