Bauchi Police parades suspects who pretend to be Bauchi governor to defraud their prey of N37 million

The Bauchi State Police command has arrested suspects who impersonated the Governor of State, Bala Mohammed and defrauded innocent members of the public the sum of N37 million in the name of payment for 2019 Hajj pilgrimage.

The suspects, Sukni Zakka who acted as the personal assistant (PA) to the governor and Iliyasu Ibrahim alias “Du” acted as the governor during phone conversations with their preys.

The impostor PA usually lure his victims to defrauds them by putting a call to the impostor governor who pretends to be the state governor, while assuring his victims of Hajj slot.

The command has paraded additional 183 suspected criminals in connection with various crimes within the state.

Parading the suspects before pressmen at the command headquarters on Monday, the State commissioner of police Habu Sani said the briefing was to update members of the public on the feat so far achieved in the ongoing fight against crimes.

The state police chief said, “so far, the command tactical teams attached to Operation Puff Adder have between the months of August and September, 2019 arrested one hundred and eighty five (185) suspects in connection with armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling and vandalism.

“Other suspects were arrested with connection to theft of electric cable, dealing with counterfeit currency, cultivation of weeds suspected to be cannabis/ Indian hemp, criminally changing IMEI numbers of stolen/robbed cell phones and other heinous crimes in Bauchi state.

Others include two suspects responsible for many robbery cases including the recent attempted armed robbery at Shafa filling station along Bauchi- Jos road, and another two suspects who

According to the commissioner , “out of one hundred and eighty five (185) suspects arrested, one hundred and thirty eight (138) were charged to court while forty seven (47) are still in the Command custody undergoing investigation.

The command also recovered four AK-47 rifles, one pistol, One locally made sub machine gun, 17 assorted firearms,65 live ammunition, five cartridges and Six pellets.

The police also said 42 machetes, four motor vehicles, eight motorcycles, One tricycle (KEKE NAPEP) and N45,000 liters of petroleum products.

The Police Commissioner called on members of the public to support the command by providing useful information to enable them succeed in the fight against crime in the state
