House of Representatives member, Alhaji Abubakar Faggo, APC Shira- Giade constituency in Bauchi state, has empowered 1,865 constituents with working tools and N10,million cash, to improve their livelihoods.
Faggo, who disclosed this during the distribution of the items, on Saturday, at Yana, the headquarter of Shira Local government area of the state, said the gesture was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to his constituents.
He assured the constituents that they would continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy during his tenure.
The lawmaker explained that the empowerment programme was also part of his efforts to alleviate poverty in his constituency, saying that this became necessary to ensure that the beneficiaries had something to fall back on after the COVID-19 lockdown.
Faggo said, “I have an amazing relationship with you all and I thank the merciful God for His mercies upon everyone”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Items distributed included 200 sewing machines, 200 motorcycles, 30 generating sets, 100 pumping machines, 30 computer laptops, 300 grinding machines , 5 Peugeot 406 cars and 10 million naira for 1000 beneficiaries who received N10, 000 each,
On his part, The Chairman, Bauchi All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Uba Nana applauded the lawmaker for always identifying with the people, saying that the party was proud of any legislator who provided dividends of democracy to his constituents and alleviated their sufferings.
He therefore appealed to the beneficiaries to reciprocate and not to sell the tools given to them, but to make use of them judiciously.
Also speaking, the former speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, also commended the effort of the lawmaker for alleviating the poverty of his people.
“If poverty must be alleviated, then there must be jobs and for jobs to be available, that is why Faggo had to do this.
“What he has done today is not part of his responsibility as a legislator and that is what the country has become, he is supposed to make laws that will be of benefit to the people. Therefore, you all must appreciate him by judiciously using these items,” Dogara said.
He urged the people of Shira-Giade constituency to vote for continuity and more benefits of the dividends of democracy.
Alhaji Adamu Disina, a beneficiary, lauded the lawmaker for the gesture and promised to make good use of the working tool given to him. (NAN)
