Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has directed the duly elected chairmen of the 20 local government areas and their councillors to vacate office immediately.
About two years ago, Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission conducted the election that produced the sacked chairmen and deputies. It was the first local government election in the state in over a decade.
The Governor in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado said the tenure of the elected chairman and councillors expired in line with the provisions of Section 2 (i) of the Local Government System Establishment and Administration of Local Government Councils Law of Bauchi State, 2013 as amended.
Bala also directed all administrative secretaries of the 20 local governments to exit their offices along with both the legislative and executive arms.
“The tenure of the elected local Government Chairmen, Deputies and Councilors expires on the 10th of October 2022.
“Consequent upon the above, His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, Fnipr, (Kauran Bauchi) the Executive Governor of Bauchi State has approved that the Chairmen, Deputies, Councilors, and Secretaries of the Twenty (20) Local Governments should step down and hand over the affairs of their offices to the Heads of Administration of their respective Local Government Councils,” the statement read in part.
