Seventeen states in the federation have not yet approved the new salary structure for workers in their state in line with the new minimum wage, leaving workers without the certainty of when to start enjoying the recent salary adjustment.
Out of the 17 states, at least eight states are from northern Nigeria which have not made any commitment on the pay raise for their employees.
WikkiTimes review of the states indicates that Bauchi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara States are the states across the North Central, North East and North West that have not made disclosure about the salary. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja is yet to make its position.
Following President Bola Tinubu approval of the 70,000 national minimum wage from N30,000 existing since 2019, many states are yet to adjust their salary structures.
WikkiTimes Reports that 18 states have adopted the new minimum wage which is intended to provide better financial standing for Nigerian workers.
Other states that have not yet approved the new minimum wage in the country include Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Cross River and Enugu.
