Bauchi Targets 100,000 Pregnant Women For Medical Outreach

Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency targeted about 1.5 million children and over 100,000 pregnant mothers are been targeted for various medical interventions during the 2022 Maternal newborn and child healthcare week in the state.

The Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad said this during the official Flagging ceremony of the week held at Yelwa Domiciary Primary healthcare center.

Dr. Rilwanu said the week involves vitamin A supplementation, deworming, Routine immunization, Rotavirus vaccine administration, and other medical consultation.

He said children under the age of five as well as pregnant women are the main beneficiaries of the interventions.

The Executive Chairman opined That the week is been observed twice a year between the month of May and June and is part of the federal government’s high integrated intervention aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality in the country.

The supervising Commissioner of health Ali Babayo Gamawa disclosed that the ward minimum health care package and the integrated maternal, newborn, and child initiative were introduced by the Federal Government but with limited success.

Represented by Dr. Robinson Yusuf, The commissioner explained that the move was to improve the nutritional status of both the mother and child.
