Bauchi Teacher remanded in prison for sodomising eight-year-old boy

A 45-year old primary school teacher, Haruna Aliyu of unguwar Ganjuwa, Bauchi metropolis, was on Wednesday, remanded in prison custody for alleged sodomy of an eight year old boy, name withheld.

The Chief Magistrate Court 10 in Bauchi gave the order over allegations that the accused, Haruna Aliyu has been sodomising the eight -year -old boy, offering him 10 naira every Friday as inducement.

The accused, Haruna Aliyu was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate court 10 in Bauchi on charges of ‘unnatural offence and criminal intimidation’ which is contrary to Sections 284 and of the Penal Code.

In his ruling, the presiding Judge, Justice Abdulmumini Adamu ordered that the suspect, Haruna Aliyu be remanded in prison custody for allegedly luring and molesting the boy sexually.

The police prosecutor, inspector Yusuf Usman told the court that, “on 6 December 2019, a resident of unguwar Ganjuwa within the metropolis of Bauchi, Honorabul Altine Ladan reported to the police station that one, Haruna Aliyu, age, 45 of the same address allegedly lured his 8 year old son to his room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of him.”

The prosecutor further informed the court that the suspect is been accused of repeatedly carrying out the unholy act on the boy which according to him, contravenes section 284 of the penal court.

After reading the charges to the accused, Malam Haruna Aliyu by the court, the prosecutor sought to be given additional days by the court to enable the police deepened their investigation which the court granted.

The trial Judge, Justice Abdulmumini Adamu therefore adjourned to 5th December, 2020 for continued hearing of the case.

After the court session, Barrister Haruna Muh’d Muezzudden, a lawyer who is following the trial said there are indications that the court will do justice to the case.

“The police have the constitutional mandate to carry out investigation on the suspect, up to now, they have not completed their investigation on the matter and we hope that they will soon finish their investigation”, he said.

Barrister Muezzudden vowed to follow the case to its logical conclusion to ensure that the victim gets justice.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP Hausa, the father of the victim, Honorabul Altine Ladan said he was in the court to seek justice for his son who was sexually molested by the accused, Malam Haruna Aliyu, a primary school teacher residing in the same address with him.

“He is used to luring children to his room and sadomise them. What happened first is that, one to two months ago my son complained to me of having stomach arch and we took him to the hospital, thereafter he started complaining of pains in his anus so we were seriously disturbed. When we asked him to undress, to our dismay we saw worms in his anus.”

“When we sat our son down and asked him who was behind it, he said it was Haruna. “That he (Haruna) used to call him to his room, offer him 10 naira and have carnal knowledge of him”, the victim’s father revealed.

“So we immediately went and reported the matter to the police after gathering the vital information. “When asked by the police, our son explained to them that the suspect used to ask him to go to his house and collect happy Friday gift of 10 naira and have sex with him.”

He said that the report obtained from hospital has proven that the accused has actually committed the act with his son, adding that many children were also victims of Haruna’s dastardly act.

Altine who said they have taken the victim (his son) to specialist hospital Bauchi for treatment where he is recovering, pleaded with the court to ensure that he gets justice.

He also called on the child rights organizations, other NGOs, stakeholders and governments to monitor the case to ensure that the suspect is duly punished if found guilty.
