Bauchi to host first climate change conference

Hamisu Mu’azu, Bauchi State Commissioner for Environment and Housing, said the State government is to host the first North East Climate Change Conference with critical stakeholders as participants, as part of effort to address the menace of climate change.

The Commissioner who stated this while briefing Government House Correspondents on the activities of his ministry said the conference will house Commissioners of Environment from the North East and other critical stakeholders with the view to overcome the environmental challenges affecting the region.

“For the first time in the history of the north east, Bauchi State will host commissioners of environment from the zone to converge in Bauchi to discuss problems of waste and other environmental challenges in the region.

“The good thing about this conference is that our Ministry will host it without writing any memo to his Excellency requesting for his support.”

The Commissioner said the conference is expected to draw the attention of the International Community on the areas that needed immediate intervention, which according to him was critical in combating climate change.

Hamisu expressed confidence that the outcome of the conference will be beneficial to the state and the entire northeast of Nigeria.

The commissioner said the ministry of environment will work with donor agencies to create sustainable waste recycling system that will convert the evolving waste in the region.
