Bauchi TUC Kicks Salary Review for Public Office Holders

Bauchi State Chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has rejected the purported plan to increase the salary of public office holders in Nigeria. 

Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission had hinted about a planned review of the salary of public office holders in the country to improve their well-being sparking outrage across the country. Chairman Bauchi Chapter of TUC, Comrade Muhammad Sabi’u Barau said this in Bauchi. 

He said the planned upward salary review for public office holders in Nigeria amounts to utter misplacement of priority on the site of the government that ordinarily ought to work for the betterment of the lives of citizens.

Labour leaders in Bauchi state have condemned the plan to review the salaries of public office holders and politicians in Nigeria by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, saying that the plan is a misplacement of priority.

The Chairman said that at a time when most states in the country are unable to pay their workers with the recently approved National Minimum Wage of N30,000 there should not be any talk of salary increase for politicians. 

Comrade Sabi’u said the plan is ill timely considering the high cost of living for the masses, calling on the government to introduce policies that will ensure that the welfare of workers is given the needed attention.
