Between You And The Electorates

By Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim

As some elected executives and legislative members completed one year in office, I decided to share this piece. May it be beneficial to our leaders. Most of the people that turned out massively during the 2019 general elections were poor.

Sadly, after most elections, in Nigeria, result declarations, and inaugurations, the newly elected leaders fly and forget those who voted them into power.

In the just-concluded presidential, gubernatorial and national & state house of assemblies general elections 2019, many people were out at their respective polling units as early as 6 am. Some even turned out directly from the mosque after observing subhi prayer.

They may stand throughout the day, under the sun and/or rain as the case be. Just imagine, a person might be having an ulcer but despite all odds, he endured to send you there.

Dear leaders, how do you think that those people would come out and vote for you again if you disappoint them? What do you need from them apart from the mandate they gave you? They do not deserve such a reward. Pity them, please.

This is the purpose of writing this piece. It is designed primarily to call on you before it is too late. Let me remind you, in case you forget. There is that day, in which you will be asked about your leadership and you must account for it. Do you think leadership is easy?
