Binani Steps Down as Tinubu Campaign Coordinator Amid APC Crisis in Adamawa

Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign in Adamawa State has stepped down amid a crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC in Adamawa State.

Mrs Binani in a telephone conversation with WikkiTimes attributed her resignation to a pending appeal case, which she says will demand her attention and is likely to impact Mr Tinubu’s ongoing campaign nationwide.

“I stepped down to enable someone to act on my behalf pending the decision to enable me to concentrate on my appeal case:. she said.

The senator told WikkiTimes she had approached an appellate court over the nulled primaries, adding she had to resign pending the court’s ruling.

WikkiTimes recalled that Mrs Binani’s victory during the APC primaries as governorship flagbearer was voided by a high court in Adamawa.

Binani emerged as the candidate for the gubernatorial election of the state, thrashing Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Jibrilla Bindow, former governor of the state.

A few weeks after the primary, a federal high court in Yola, the capital of Adamawa ruled that there was no candidate for APC in the state for the 2023 elections.

This staired a lot of criticism in the state as women protested the court’s judgement saying Binani remains their choice.

Earlier, WikkiTimes reported that some APC members loyal to the opposition peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were trying to sabotage Tinubu/Shetitima campaign as they denied being aware of Binani’s strategic plans for the movement.

Mustapha Usman Bash, a lawmaker representing Yola South, Yola North, and Girei Federal Constituency in a statement issued yesterday alleged that some APC members who are PDP apologists were trying to sabotage Tinubu/Shettima movement by disorganising the Working Committee.

The lawmaker claimed that constitutionally recognised executives of the committee were forced to resign from their posts and replaced by other people serving in acting capacities.

Following her appointment as coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign in Adamawa, Binani made some strategic arrangements. But members of the committee (who are PDP apologists) claimed they were not aware of the arrangements, according to Bash.

“This is clearly a direct confrontation with the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and a clear case of sabotage of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign in Adamawa State for reasons best known to them,” Bash’s letter partly read.

“The activities of these misguided elements are not only capable of undermining Tinubu/Shettima campaign in Adamawa State, but
worst of all is that these same characters are under the guidance of some power mongers and a marabout who is soul and body is in PDP in Adamawa but claims to be APC in Abuja danced and jubilated when the Federal High Court in Yola said, Adamawa APC will not have a candidate in the next election,” it added.

Abubakar Atiku who is the flagbearer of PDP hails from Adamawa State and he would be contesting APC’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu alongside other candidates from other parties, including Peter Obi who decamped from PDP to Labour Party where he was given a ticket to contest in the 2023 presidential election.
