The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said it is committed to restoring electricity in the Northern region amidst a prolonged blackout.
The power distribution firm stressed that it is working within the constraints posed by recent vandalism and security concerns for the full restoration of the power.
During a public hearing by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), TCN’s Executive Director, Independent System Operator, Engr. Nafisatu Ali, explained that insurgent activities have severely impacted the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, a critical source of electricity to northern states.
In an update on Sunday on its X account, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, explained that due to the security situation, engineers have been unable to access the area to conduct repairs.

He said TCN, in partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) is working to ensure the safe deployment of technical teams to the vandalized sections.
The current outage, ongoing for several days, has profoundly affected socio-economic activities in the North.
TCN initially attempted to alleviate the situation by redirecting power through the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV line, which also recently suffered damage.
Despite the setbacks, TCN emphasized that it is prioritizing both the safety of its engineers and the continuity of electricity supply, working closely with security agencies to clear safe access to repair teams.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to overcoming these challenges because we understand the place of electricity in the socio-economic lives of the people,” Ndidi stated, pledging that efforts will continue until normal supply is fully restored.
