‘Blasphemy’: Bauchi Shariah Commission Postpones Meeting Sheikh Idris

Barely 48 hours after summoning a popular Islamic cleric and leading Imam of the Dutsen Tanshi Jum’aat in Bauchi metropolis over “blasphemous” comment he made against Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the Shariah Commission in the state has postponed an invitation earlier sent to him for clarification.

This is contained in a letter signed by Musa Yisin on April 7 and addressed to the cleric. The commission stated that the rescheduled date would be communicated subsequently.

“I am directed to formally inform you of the reschedule of the date of the interactive session earlier slated for Saturday, 8 April 2023. That the new date will be communicated to you accordingly,” the letter read.

WikkiTimes had earlier reported that the Bauchi State Shari’ah Commission demanded Sheikh Idris to appear before it on Saturday to clarify his comment about the Prophet during one of his Tafseer sermons.

Contrasting reactions, however, trailed his comment as critics described his words as an attack on the personality of the Noble Prophet, while others backed the cleric.

This medium also reported that Dr Umar Adam Disina, another cleric in the state has expressed support for Sheikh Idris while delivering his Juma’at sermon.
