Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists have killed at least eight people and abducted 160 in Kuchi community of Munya Local Government of Niger State.
The brazen raid also caused displacement of hundreds of residents, according to the Chairman of Munya Local Government, Honorable Aminu Na-jume.
“Many people have been displaced. We have now identified different IDP camps. Since the beginning of these attacks, there has never been such a devastating attack in this community as this, and they have been operating for eight hours,” Na-jume told BBC Hausa.
He explained that among the 160 abducted include the ailing Sarkin Hausawa (traditional title holder) of the town, women, children, and the elderly.
“They were carrying a Boko Haram flag, and their speech was similar to that of Boko Haram,” he noted.
Niger is one of the Northern states ravaged by the activities of bandits and Boko Haram for a decade which led to the death of hundreds of people and displacement of thousands others.
