Borno Begins Clampdown On Fake Land Vendors

The Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS), has begun clampdown on fake land vendors who engaged in land racketeering in Maiduguri metropolis.

Mr Adam Balarabe, Executive Secretary of the Agency, stated this during a special operations against such illegal land vendors and estate operators on Thursday in Maiduguri.

Balarabe who led a team of operatives of the Agency in the operation, said that four offices of such vendors had been identified and sealed for allegedly duping members of the public.

“We have invited them to our office for discussions on how they can go about thier business in a legitimate way but our call fell on deaf ears.

“They are conducting their activities without recourse to the law.

“They found a farmland and divided it without following the procedure for making standard layout.

“Many people are dupe in such activities,” he said.

He said that some teachers were victims of land scam after purchasing plots of land at a place where the state government was executing a mechanic village project.

The secretary said the action negatively affected the process of payment of compensation to land owners, whose land were used for the project.

“We dont know whether to pay compensation to the farmers or teachers who purchased the land without approved documents.

“We have to put a stop to these nefarious activities of land vendors. They have mutilated identified lands into unknown numbers,” he said. (NAN)
