Borno Court Indicts 2 For Land Fraud

The Borno State zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday arraigned one Malam Jibrin Adam and Maina Adam before a Borno State high court on a crime bordering land scam.

In a statement, Justice Umaru Fadawu revealed that the duo were charged with conspiracy and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N570, 000.00.

In his ruling, the judge said: “That you, Malam Jibrin Adam, Maina Adam, and one Musa Umar Musa (now at large) sometime in 2018 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, induced Mohammed Umar Bolori to deliver to you the sum of N570,000.00 (Five Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira) only under the pretense that the said sum represents a purchase price for a purported sale of a plot of land situate and located behind CBN Quarters along Dambua Road, Maiduguri Borno State which you have no authority to sell and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 1(1) (b) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2016.”

WikkiTimes learnt that the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against them.

However, the prosecuting counsel, Haruna Abdulkadir, in view of his plea, appealed to the court to remand the defendants and fix a date for trial to commence.

In line with his plea, the case was adjourned until August 11, 2022 for commencement of trial while the defendants were remanded in prison custody.
