Borno Resettles 18 Pastoral Communities Through Modern Ranch

The Borno State Government has established a modern cattle ranch and resettled 18 distinct pastoral communities in one area in Ngarannam community of Mafa Local Government.

The state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum while formally commissioning the ranch in the area said the initiative is part of their broader efforts to transform the livestock sector and enhance food security.

Gov. Zulum added that with the establishment of the cattle ranch, the government aimed to rebuild and transform the livelihood of rural dwellers, especially those affected by the insurgency.

“This symbolizes not only our commitment to sustainable livestock agriculture and food security but also our resilience and determination to rebuild and transform the livelihood of our people particularly those affected by insurgency and displacement”, Zulum said.

According to him, the 641 households displaced across the 18 pastoral communities will be housed in the newly built shelter provided to them by the government in addition to humanitarian support to be given to them.

“Each of the 461 households of 18 communities in Mafa LGA who victims of Boko Haram insurgency have been, in addition to a house, will receive pairs of bulls and heifers, goats, and a humanitarian relief package consisting of essential food and non-food items”, he added.

In a remark, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Co-Chair of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Committee, Professor Attahiru Jega, commended Governor Zulum for establishing the cattle ranch, which he said is the first of its kind in Nigeria.

Similarly, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha said the project will no doubt address food challenges in the country.
