Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will present certificates of return to Adamawa State Governor-elect, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and his deputy by 3 pm today.
The commission disclosed this in a Twitter post, Wednesday morning.
This comes after INEC nulled the purported victory of Aishatu Ahmed Dahiru Binani of All Profressives Congress (APC) as earlier announced by now-suspended Yunusa Hudu Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State.
Yesterday, Adamawa Stare’s Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Mele, declared Fintiri as the rightful winner of the election.
Although Binani has prayed a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop INEC from truncating her “victory”, the court refused to hear her motion.
Meanwhile, Fintiri had said during a Channels TV program yesterday that he didn’t contest against Binani, but some bigwigs in Abuja.
“I contested against the whole system, I contested against those who feel they own Nigeria from Abuja and they feel they can make Adamawa a scapegoat.
“Even in the election, I didn’t go into the election against the woman, I went into the election against INEC. The whole presiding officers that were conducting the election, all of them were APC members,” he had said.
