The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III has on Friday confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Ramadan fast in Nigeria.
WikkiTimes had earlier reported that the new moon was also sighted in Saudi Arabia.
A live broadcast on Friday by the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero says the Sultan has confirmed that the 2022 Ramadan fast will begin on Saturday, April, 2.
The fasting period in Islamic tradition represents the time for reflection where Muslims are expected to multiply their good deeds and demonstrate sympathy for the needy.
Ramadan fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam and is made compulsory for all adult Muslims, except sick, travelling persons or those observing menstrual cycle, pregnant, or the elderly.
