Breaking: UK Court Jails Ekweremadu, Wife for Organ Trafficking

Ike Ekweremadu, former Deputy Senate President, and his wife, Beatrice have been sentenced to jail for organ trafficking.

A UK found the duo guilty on Friday, court, Friday. While Ekweremadu bagged nine years and 6 months prison term, his wife was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.

Also, a doctor who abetted them, Obinna Obeta, bagged a 10-year jail term. His license was also seized.

The couple had trafficked a 21-year-old male from Lagos to the UK to extract his kidney to transplant into Sonia Ekweremadu, their daughter. The three convicted are the first people to be jailed under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act, and prosecutors described it as a landmark judgement.
