BUK Promotes 45 Academics to Professors, 45 Others Associate Professors 

The Bayero University Kano (BUK) Senate has approved the promotion of forty-five senior Academics to the rank of Professors.

BUK also promoted another 45 academics to the rank of Associate Professors in various departments of the university.

Lamara Garba, Deputy Registrar, Head of Public Affairs in a special bulletin of the University released on Monday, said the University’s Senate gave the approval at its 416th meeting held on 28th August.

Garba said the promotion covered for both 2022 and 2023 which were merged together.

According to the bulletin, 40 males and five females including Ummulkhairi A Dantata of Hausa Language, Latifa Musa Pedro of Health Economics, Aisha Muhammed Gadanya of Nutrition and Pharmacological Biochemistry, Hauwa Musa Abdullahi of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Hadiza Saidu of Medicine made the lists of new professors.

Other senior male Academics include Umar Sani Fagge of Arabic Language, Ibrahim Muaazzam Saminu Maibushira of Islamic Thought and Civilization, Tijjani Muhammad Naniya, Social and Political History, and Mukhtar Ridwan Bunza as Professor of Forest Ecology and Silviculture among others.

Garba said others promoted to the rank of Associate Professors include Lawal Muhammed Bello, Electrical Engineering, Warshu Tijjani Rabi’u, Islamic Studies and Sharia’h, Sunusi Iguda of Mass Communication, Binta Ishiyaku Usman, Fisheries, and Saudat Garba Habib of Ophthalmology among others.

Similarly, the University Senate has also approved the migration of Department of Economics from the Faculty of Social Sciences to the Faculty of Management Sciences in line with emerging trends and global best practice and Migration of the Department of Library & Information Sciences from the Faculty of Education to the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Other resolutions include renaming of the Faculty of Management Sciences to Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences.
