Business woman in court over alleged N2.4m fraud

A 47-year-old woman, Buba Scholastica, who allegedly defrauded a company of N2.4 million under false pretenses was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, a business woman who resides at 34, Shorinmade St., Aguda, Ogba, Lagos is being tried for conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chekunbe Ikeh, told the court that the offences were committed on Oct. 23, 2018, at Ample Life Foundation Company, Agege Motor Road, Oshodi, Lagos.

Ikeh said that the defendant in company of her friend, now at large, went to the company to demand for a loan to boost her business and she tendered some documents to a property.

“The sum of N2.4 million was given to her and she promised to pay back in three months.

“When the company expected her to have shown up, they sent a representative to the address she gave and got to know she had packed out of the place,’’ she said.

The prosecutor also said that the company got to know that the defendant gave them fake and forged documents of a property and the case was reported at the police station.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O Akinde, granted the defendant bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She, however, adjourned the case until June 26 for mention.
