Businessman in court for allegedly cheating wood seller of N78,000

A 50-year-old businessman, Lawal Suleiman, on Wednesday appeared in a Karshi Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly cheating a wood seller of N78, 000.

The police charged Suleiman, who resides in Mpape,  Abuja with two counts of  criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the complainant, Okechukwu Atuaya ,  who resides in Kugbo timber shed, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, on June 21.

He alleged that on June 20, the defendant purchased 800 pieces of planks worth N228,000, including transportation.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant only paid N150,000 .

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

After the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.

The judge, Anas Isah, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N150,000, with one surety

Isah adjourned the case until Aug. 29, for hearing. (NAN)
