CCIJ’s Gender-Based Violence Reports Earn INN Awards Finalists

The Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism (CCIJ) announced that its investigations into gender-based violence by state actors in Uganda and Zimbabwe have been named finalists in the 2024 Nonprofit News Awards.

The awards were hosted by the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), to recognize excellence in nonprofit journalism across more than 450 newsrooms in the INN network with over 600 entries evaluated this year, according to a statement CCIJ issued.

“CCIJ is one of just four INN member organizations that has been named finalists in each of the four years the INN Awards have been granted. This year, judges from a variety of news organizations evaluated more than 600 entries, a 25 percent increase from last year.”

The investigations unearthed discrimination faced by dreadlocked men in Uganda and the child marriage crisis in Zimbabwe perpetuated by a government-backed religious sect.

Both projects were supported by the National Endowment for Democracy, emphasizing the critical role of investigative journalism in advocating for human rights and justice.
