Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has called for efforts to improve the quality of basic education and equal access to same in the country to ensure public contentment.
Li made the call at a national meeting on basic education held in Beijing on Monday.
The Chinese premier said that the country should provide more support for education development in impoverished regions, ensure a balanced development of compulsory education and address problem of children from needy families dropping out of school.
He said that efforts would be made to ensure that children of migrant workers received compulsory education in locations where their parents worked.
According to him, pre-school education will be developed while the coverage of high school education will be extended.
The chinese premier added that Internet-based education services would be promoted just as the security of schools would be ensured.
He said that in addition teachers’ salaries would be guaranteed.
Vice Premier Sun Chunlan said at the meeting that Li’s instructions would be faithfully implemented.
He urged party committees and government at all levels to make basic education a priority.
Sun also urged them to take effective measures to implement the central government’s policies and step up the overseeing of schools. (Xinhua/NAN)
